August 2009:
Our wonderful vet is ill. From all the HH residents helped by Andrew, our best wishes and we hope you recover soon.
Name a Turkey:
Some of our 60 rescued turkey chicks (poults) still need names.
The recent cold weather and frost made for some great views at Hen Heaven’s pastures; however in these cold times the hens and turkeys need far more feed than they usually require. More and more hens came into Hen Heaven during the Christmas period and the demand for food has soared.
In winter the hens stop laying eggs because at Hen Heaven they live a natural life. Most hens won’t lay in the cold and wet conditions and those that do lay fewer eggs than normal. A lot of our hens are now elderly girls and are past laying. This has cut a source of the sanctuary’s income and has severely affected the sanctuary’s finances.

Here are a few photos of recent sanctuary scenes. The cold weather did not stop the hens and turkeys enjoyment of a truly free range life. The 60 baby turkeys really took to roaming the pastures and love being free to enjoy live outside.
